Open flu vaccination center in Bilbao today
The centre is located in the Pavilion of La Casilla and will remain open for 15 days, from 08:00 to 20:00.
Osakidetza will open a flu vaccination reinforcement centre this Friday at the Casilla pavilion in Bilbao, where about 1,000 people a day are expected to be immunized, as those infected in Bizkaia have doubled compared to recent years.
As reported by the Department of Health of the Basque Government, persons over 14 years of age may go to this pavilion in the centre of Bilbao from 08:00 to 20:00, for 15 days, including weekends, without prior appointment.
Osakidetza estimates that about 1,000 vaccines per day will be administered at this centre, and that the vaccine against covid-19 will also be offered to people over 75 years of age and risk groups who wish to receive it.
The aim of this' vaccination 'is to speed up the immunization of the population, hoping that the incidence of this respiratory disease will advance over previous campaigns, as has been detected in hospitals and emergency services, especially in Bizkaia.
According to assistance data collected from 13 to 19 October (week 42 of the 2025-2026 campaign), 506 cases of influenza have been identified, well above 166 in the same period last year and 105 in two years.
A total of 1,120 cases have been recorded in the first three weeks of the campaign, more than twice as many as in previous campaigns. This increase suggests that influenza has arrived earlier this year and that the contagion curve may be advancing.
In the week under review, 45 hospital admissions were reported, compared to 5 and 6 in previous years.
A total of 131 hospitalizations have been recorded so far, but this figure was not reached in previous campaigns until the end of November.
Hospitalizations in ICUs also show a slight upturn: 6 cases have been accumulated, but currently only one person remains in intensive care in Bizkaia.
By territory, Bizkaia has the highest incidence, with 74.35 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Gipuzkoa (32.10) and Álava (9.85).
