The multinational Alstom has resorted again to the decision to award the Belgian contract to CAF
The French company must present new arguments to the Belgian Council of State, which has so far supported the company based in Beasain.
The French company Alstomhas not resigned itself and has resorted again to try to take over the contract for the construction of 180 trains in Belgium, amountingto between EUR 1.7 billion and EUR 3.5 billion. The multinational will have to present new arguments to the Belgian Council of State, whose body has so far supported the company based in Beasain.
After theBelgian public railway company (SNCB) decided to select CAF as a "preferred bidder", the French company based in Belgium, Alstom, filed an appeal and the company Siemens joined the application.
However, last July the Belgian railway network confirmed its decision to award the contract to the CAF. Previously, the Council of State of Elgica annulled the decision to award CAF the manufacture of trains in the coming years on the grounds of lack of transparency in the award process.
In the coming weeks, the Belgian Council of State will meet again to hear and analyse the new arguments of the Alstom company, which has so far repeatedly argued that its offer is EUR 100 million cheaper than that of CAF and guarantees local employment.
Workers at Alstom's factory in the city of Bruges stopped production on Monday to protest that they have not achieved what has also been called a subordinate contract .
One of the biggest contracts in CAF history.
CAF has in parallel one of the largest contracts in its history. In March, it reported in a statement that, according to the possible agreement, the maximum number of units would be 170,000. The initial basic commitment is €1,695 million (the number of units of 50,000) if the agreement were finally concluded.
However, the full performance of the contract could amount to up to EUR 3.5 billion, making it one of the largest in the company's history.
