The final of the Europa League has had an economic impact on the Basque economy of EUR 52 million
According to the Ikertalde report on the impact of the final played in Bilbao last May, the event has contributed almost EUR 30 million to the GDP of the ACV.
The final of the Europa League, played in Bilbao on 21 May this year, has had an economic impact on the economy of the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) of EUR 52.5 million, or, in other words, this amount is thirteen times the amount that the Basque institutions put in to promote the sporting event.
The total organizational expenditure has been EUR 11.52 million for the recruitment of companies and persons responsible for the organisation, including the Bilbao City Council, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the Basque Government, which contributed EUR 2.21 million, and the remaining UEFA, the Spanish Football Federation and the two finalist teams (Manchester United and Tottenham).
Similarly, the stay of the groups associated with the event in or around Bilbao resulted in a contribution of EUR 2.66 million.
With regard to the economic impact caused by the people attracted by the event , i.e. (tourists, visitors and residents) the amount of expenditure has been 23.83 million euros .
