In March, the 150-seater OPE tests for the Ertzainas will begin
Security Counselor Bingen Zupiria announced on Wednesday that next March the tests of the Public Employment Opposition (OPE) of the 35th promotion of the Ertzaintza, which offers 150 places for basic scale agents, will begin and the registration deadline ends on December 23.
This offer was called to fill 463 vacancies in the previous promotion, of which 270 have been unfilled, as 90 per cent of the 3,609 applicants did not pass the theoretical and psychotechnical tests.
150 places can be increased to 463 of the previous one. In the first examinations of the previous one there were more than 380 opponents to whom physical, medical and personal tests have yet to be carried out, since the process has not yet been completed.
At the end of the registration period, "the next phase would begin in March", that is, the examinations, Zupiria announced during the presentation of the Ertzaintza Employment Plan 2025-2028, which was approved last July at the Ertzaintza negotiating table with the support of the Erne, Esan and Sipe unions, and in November in the Governing Council.
In addition, the 2025 Public Employment Offers of the Basque Administration and Public Institutions, which was approved this Tuesday by the Governing Council and is intended to be developed in 2026, include a number of public offers, including 430 for Ertzaintza agents, although the Department of Safety and Security has not yet announced the date on which it will convene.
The Counsellor reiterates that the objective of the Employment Plan is to have 8,000 Ertzainas in the Ertzaintza through selection and promotion processes between 2025 and 2028, although some of the results of these actions will be extended until 2030.
At present, the staffing deficit is around 700. By the end of 2024, there were more than 2,300 jobs without a holder, and more than 1,300 career officials were not definitively seconded, the counsellor explained.
In order to provide solutions to this situation, calls will be made for promotion and specialization in order to create vacancies in the lower categories in order to be able to obtain places in the OPEs, and these processes will be coordinated with the planned retirements.
The Employment Ratio will also be reorganized with a review of current specialties and new ones will be introduced, explained Zupiria, and the Basque Academy of Police and Emergencies in Arkaute will be renovated to expand its facilities, increase its teaching staff and create new content.
In a second phase, the Employment Plan will focus on the sustainability of the system.
This Employment Plan, which will have a budget of EUR 23.6 million in 2026, is due to be approved this Thursday by the Arkaute Governing Council.
In addition to this OPE, promotion processes to the posts of Mayor, Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Officer, Deputy Officer and First Agent will be convened and specializations will be carried out in Road Safety, Criminal Investigation, Protection, Deactivation of Explosives, Mobile Brigade, among others, to create the basic posts of agents.
