The Basque Government will call for the vaccination of all Basque cows against nodular dermatosis
On Monday the communities hold a meeting of the Veterinary Health Alert Network, where the Government will make the request, arguing that the latest cases have been detected in four French regions close to the ACV.
The Basque Government will argue that the sources of nodular dermatosis infection are very close to the Basque Country.
In order to prevent nodular dermatosis, the Basque Government will request tomorrow, Monday, at the meeting of the Veterinary Health Alert Network, the vaccination of all cattle in the Basque Autonomous Community.
The Department of Food, Rural Development, Agriculture and Fisheries has taken preventive measures against this disease. Since Friday it has been forbidden to show animals at fairs eta has tightened measures for the transport of cattle, including biosafety.
Counsellor Amaia Barredo recalled that a month ago the prevention measures were reduced due to the presence of the contagion focus in Catalonia, but recently new cases were reported in four French regions"just 90 kilometres from the ACV".
With the contagion so close, the Government considers it "logical" to vaccinate all livestock. At the last Health Alert meeting, the Government itself, Navarraand Aragón asked the same question, but the Ministry refused and proposed vaccination in regions close to the border.
According to Barredo, acting in this way, "the cattle to the west would be unvaccinated; much of Bizkaia and Álava would be unvaccinated; in Navarre it would be similar, and the cattle to the west and south would be unprotected."
