The farmers of Hego Euskal Herria will take part this Thursday in the tractor at the Biriatou toll, where they will be meeting for two hours from 12 noon to denounce the "defencelessness" suffered by the sector as a result of the Mercosur trade agreement.
The mobilisation, convened by the ENBA and EHNE institutions of the ACV and the UAGN organization in Navarre, will serve to express the deep concern among Basque and Navarre farmers about the progress of contagious nodular dermatosis in France.
Sources from the convening organizations have explained to EFE that about 25 tractors will depart tomorrow Thursday in three columns from different parts of Gipuzkoa, along with the Ertzaintza, on their way to the Zaisa polygon in Irun.
The concentrates will walk and be escorted by the Ertzaintza to the Biriatou border crossing, where, to the right of the esplanade, they will meet with two tractors to read a statement with their proclamations.
The rest of the field vehicles will take the right lane of the highway, leaving the road open to the left, the organizers said in a statement.
Once the rally is over, the tractors will return to the farms along the same route, supported by the Ertzaintza.
In this way, they will denounce the 'lack of protection' felt by farmers in the face of the progress of dermatosis, the 'terrible consequences for a single positive' and their concern for the EU-Mercosur agreement, which, in their view, will be the 'tip' of the European livestock sector.
This protest, which will hinder AP-8 traffic "for a couple of hours", is due to heavy traffic incidents in the area following protests by French farmers. In fact, the Biriatou crossing had to be completely closed last Friday and 72 hours by trucks of more than 3.5 tons.
The mileage lines at the AP-8 and the N-121 on Monday caused "significant losses" to carriers, the Guitrans and Fitrans associations said.
These organizations considered it "unacceptable" that the mobilizations of the French peasants could stop the border with Irun, and estimated the goods held in the three days when the passage to Biriatou was prevented at "five million tonnes".
