According to the latest data from the Register of Enterprises and Tourist Activities of the Basque Country, there are currently 88,604 tourist places, almost half of them in Bizkaia, with more than 750 accommodation places in 19 Basque municipalities.
On Thursday, the three Members of Parliament of the Basque Autonomous Community published a preliminary draft foral regulation for the implementation of a tourist tax of up to EUR 7.5 per person per day in the three Historic Territories, the aim of which is for the new tax to enter into force this summer and for establishments to be charged.
Depending on the type of establishment, the amounts shall be between EUR 0.75 and EUR 5. To this amount, by means of a tax ordinance, municipalities may add a surcharge of up to 50% if there are 750 or more accommodation places in the municipality.
