Fuel prices have risen sharply in the South Basque Country since 1 March, in a context marked by the war waged by the United States and Israel against Iran. The conflict has strained the international oil market and cut supplies and maritime traffic inthe Strait of Hormuz. This route runs about one-fifth of the world's oil prices, pushing international prices up. For example, the Brent barrel has traded this Friday at $91.84, the highest price since April 2024.
According to data from the Ministry of Ecological Transition of Spain, dieselin the Basque Countryhas increased from 1,469 euros per litre to 1,622 euros between 1 and 5 March, an increase of 15.3 cents (+10.4%) , while petrol has increased by 8.6 cents, from 1,499 euros per litre to 1,585 euros onaverage (+5.7%).
In Navarre, the increase has been even greater in the case of diesel, from 1,419 euros per litre to 1,611 euros, 19.2 cents more in just five days (+13.5%) , while gasolinehas increased from 1,464 euros to 1,578 euros, an increase of 11.4 cents (+7.8%).
