Gipuzkoa will be a guest country at the Cider World 2026 fair in Frankfurt
In previous editions, some Basque sidreros have taken the stand, but it will be the first time they have come as a guest country. The date will be from 16 to 18 April.
This year, will be the guest territoryof the international meeting of cider CiderWorld 2026, which will take place from 16 to 18 April in the German city and will be attended by representatives ofthe Provincial Councilof Gipuzkoa, the Territory of Cider and the sidreries Cruces, Zapiain and Petritegi .
At a press conference in Astigarraga, Mayor Xabier Urdangarin, MP for Mobility, Tourism and Spatial Planning Azahara Dominguez and Ion Zapiain of the Zapiain sidreria have stressed that CiderWorld is "an international meeting point for sidreries from all over the world" and an ideal setting for the international dissemination of Guipuzcoan culture.
During the three days of the event, in addition to participating in the activities organized under the CiderWorld programme, various initiatives will be developed to promote Gipuzkoa as a tourist environment , always hand in hand with cider culture.
The mayor of Astigarraga has been very pleased that "one of the most important markets in Europe is the cider shops of the village representing the cider producers of Gipuzkoa".
However, he has stressed that "this is not something new" because some cider producers "have long been trying to go to international fairs," which is "important to show what our cider culture is like and to learn what cider producers around the world are doing."
In this regard, Zapiain has explained that they have been attending CiderWorld for many years as exhibitors, which has allowed them to "interact with other cider producers, see what others do and show what is done here." "This year we have more responsibility, but we have long wanted to go as guests, so we are happy," he has acknowledged.
Programme
On Thursday, 16April\u00A0, a technical meeting and presentation will be held by the Department of Tourism of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa for professionals in the tourism sector, such as travel agencies and turoperators.
Subsequently, an institutional presentation will be made to tourism professionals, journalists specializing in gastronomy and tourism and experts in the cider sector, in which the Director of Tourism, Libe Otegui, will participate and a video will be shown to publicize Gipuzkoa.
Next, a dinner will be offered for 100 people at the Bornheimer Ratskeller restaurant in Frankfurt.
The next day, on April\u00A17, there will be talks on cider issues, and the Cider Land will talk about cider shops in Gipuzkoa. On the same day, the award ceremony of the CiderWorld '26 Award will take place.
Finally, under the title 'Cider Meets Apfelwein', the Zapiain, Petritegi and Cruces sidreries in Astigarraga will make a guided tasting for the judges of the cider competition, international producers and fans of this drink, which will take place at the Apfelweinkontor sidreria, the oldest building in Frankfurt.
Finally, April 18 , Gipuzkoa will hold a leading position at the international cider fair CiderWorld '26 Expo and, in the afternoon, the master class of Euskal Sagardoa will be given at the fair itself.
