As of today, the cleaning service will be strengthened in all neighborhoods of Vitoria-Gasteiz, with more resources and renovated machinery
The new contract awarded to Acciona amounts to around EUR 382 million and will be for the next ten years.
A new phasein the cleaning of Vitoria-Gasteiz begins, as the new contract for the road cleaning and waste collection service awarded to Acciona , which amounts to around EUR 382 million for the next ten years, is launched on Monday. According to the City Council, the complete renovation of the service will meet one of the main demands of citizens, which is to have cleaner and more cared for streets in the city.
Mayor Maider Etxebarria has stated that the new contract will be a "milestone" in cleaning up the city and its effects will be felt in all neighborhoods.
The main improvements envisaged in the new cleaning service include the comprehensive renovation of the vehicle fleet and recycling containers, the strengthening of cleaning and irrigation plans in all neighbourhoods, the installation of new fixed recycling areas, and the introduction of a door-to-door collection system for businesses in the centre, the Ensanche and the Old Town.
However, the entry into force of the contract does not mean that all improvements will be implemented immediately, and the mayor has recalled that the changes will be made gradually, since the complete renovation of machinery and technical means will take several months, as provided for in the contract itself.
One of the first and most spectacular developments will be the commissioning of one of the four beheading machines that will be used to clean the sidewalks, vehicles that have a pressure removal system for dirt designed to wash with hot water up to 80 degrees.
