The cyber attack on the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange platform, Binance, has been estimated at $5.65 billion ($5.65 billion), but half of them, $3 billion (€2.69 billion), have been blocked.
According to the company, early investigations suggest that at the source of the attack there could be a security incidentwith the laptop of anengineer , which allowed the attacker to access the system and extract money from it without permission.
Despite having an impact of more than $6 billion, Binance has claimed to have been able to block half of its loot, an operation carried out in collaboration with other members of Blockhain whose aim is to prevent the attackers from trading with the frozen part.
In any case, the platform ensures that users will not suffer losses, as it will cover them both through SAFU (Safe Assets Fund for Users, in its acronym in English) and through the platform's own funds.
As a preventive measure, and until the end of the security review , cash withdrawals are suspended . Initially, deposits were also stopped, but these are operating normally. \u00A0is expected to resume within 48 hours .
