The fire at the Lea Personal Hygiene Products Factory inVitoria-Gasteiz, which has caused a large column of ke, is visible throughout the Alavesa capital. The factories of Lea and the workers of other companies at the Gamarra industrial estate have moved away from the area and no one has been injured.
The fire started at 13:45, and firefighters are working to keep the flames from spreading to oxygen tanks in the factory.
The Department of Safety and Security has asked the residents of the Abetxuko neighbourhood not to leave the house and keep the windows and doors of the houses closed, while urging the population not to approach the area.
The source of the fire is a tanker truck carrying chemicals to Lea, according to Vitoria City Council sources.
