The Civil Guardhas arrested a passenger at Bilbao airportafter finding apacket of tobacco in his checked luggage 2,550, which on the market would be worth15,300 euros.
The man, who came from the Gambia with a stop in Barcelona, has been identified following a joint operation between Prat airport agents, Bilbao airport agents and members of the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency.
The operation began when it was discovered that a passenger had not picked up his luggage on the luggage tape when he arrived in Bilbao and had left the terminal alone with his hand luggage. The next day he went to the airline's lost items office to claim his luggage.
At that time, the officers identified and searched the three large suitcases he was carrying, which were loaded with packets of tobacco. Since the value of the goods exceeded 14,999 euros(from that limit it is considered a crime of tobacco smuggling), the passenger has been arrested.
