The fires in Castile and Leon are of the highest level of severity despite positive developments
Of the most worrying forest fires, five are in Leon, while in Asturias the three largest fires have been stabilized.
Castile and Leon will begin the weekwith six of the most serious forest fires, although some fronts have improved. Rising temperatures, lower humidity and wind make it difficult to extinguish forest fires , causing them to reignite in already affected areas. Instead, the situation in Asturias is different, where the three most dangerous fires have already been stabilized.
The worst is the situation in the province of León, where five fires are active: Fasgar, La Baña, Igueña, Garaño and Molinaseca, the latter two declared on Sunday and which have been very violent, forcing the preventive evacuation of more than 700 residents from twelve villages.
In Zamora, the fire in Porto remains at its highest level, although it seems to evolve well, despite entering the Natural Park of the Lake of Sanabria and extending to La Baña (León), areas where they can still pose a risk to the population. The risk of other forest fires in Palencia, León and Almansa has been reduced and the level of gravity has been reduced, but they remain under surveillance.
The Commission of Castile and Leon has put in place a comprehensive device throughout the community, warning that the weatherconditions of the next few days may aggravate the situation .
Asturias, stabilized
The fires in south-west Asturias show a positive trend: the fire in Degaña has stabilized, the fire in Genestoso is fully controlled and the fire in Somiedo is expected to be controlled today thanks to the support of local firefighters, international volunteers and air resources.
Since 13 August, the fire has burned more than 5,500 hectares, so the Asturian Government will grant aid of 800,000 euros to local farmers and to carry out recovery projects in areas of high value in natural environments affected by fires.
