A decisive step in the renovation of the Olabeaga district of Bilbao: the train will be buried and 600 homes will be built
The process of transformation of Olabeaga has taken a fundamental step after several years of administrative blockade. Bilbao Ria 2000 plans to approve before the end of 2025 the basic and constructive project for the integration of the train through the neighbourhood, as well as the competition for urban planning of the area.
The plan envisages the relocation of the current railway route, which will run below the road connecting Zorroza, a change that will make it possible to free the large area of the land, where 600 homes, two squares and a park will be built over the next ten years.
Bilbao Ria 2000 has stressed that this step isthe"beginning" of a "complex" process, in which various administrations will work in a coordinated manner to transform in a comprehensive manner one of the neighborhoods with the greatest potential in the Ria over the next decade.
The action is part of the Plan for the Restoration of the South of Bilbao , which also includes the integration of the Zorroza railway and the development of new residential and green areas linked to the city centre.
