Amaia Zabarte's husband will demand justice today at his parliamentary appearance
A foam shell fired by the Ertzaintza seriously wounded Zabarte in March last year during the riots in the vicinity of the Anoeta stadium in the run-up to the match between Real and PSG.
Amaia Zabarte's case comes to the Basque Parliament today, where her husband and lawyer, Joseba Novoaand Iker Sarriegi, respectively, will appear in the Chamber of Vitoria at 11:30 a.m. to explain their version of the case.
In March 2024, in the run-up to the Real Sociedad-PSG Champions League match, a foam shell from the Ertzaintza in the vicinity of Anoeta hit Zabarte in the head and was taken seriously injured to Donostia Hospital.
Last month, the victim's husband and lawyer sent a letter to Parliament requesting a hearing in which, after reviewing Zabarte's experience since the attack, they recalled that, although the case had initially been closed, the Gipuzkoa Territorial Court had decided to extend the case and open an investigation, including taking a statement from Zabarte on 7 April.
They also denounced in the letter that it is not understandable that the trial has not yet taken place or that the ertzainas involved in the riots have not been called to testify. They said that they feel helpless and that as victims they feel treated as guilty.
