A young man from Bilbao is being investigated for manufacturing and selling sticks through TikTok
Bilbao Municipal Police are investigating a 33-year-old resident of the San Adrian neighborhood for allegedly manufacturing and selling stool sticks through the TikTok social network. Last July, a video was viralized of a cobra head stick hiding a removable swordsman inside.
On the basis of these images, the agents found a number of profiles in which they promoted and marketed home-made sticks, often in line with the characteristics of prohibited weapons. Investigations by the Crime Inspection confirmedthat the investigator used TikTok to show the process of processing and to interact privately with buyers by agreeing prices and personalized models.
The author himself claimed in his videos that the shipments were made to different parts of the state, including Portugal and France. The sticks were sold for between EUR 100 and 200, and the police have identified more than 60 people.
The suspect, who has a police record, purchased the necessary materials (wooden bodies, handles or knives) from suppliers in Alicante and Seville, making some metal sheets by hand.
The sword-stick is a weapon designed to conceal its true nature in the form of a common stick, hiding a sharp sheet inside it, which, according to the police, is more dangerous than usual because of its capacity for injury and concealment.
The manufacture, possession and trafficking of prohibited weapons may be punishable byup to three years' imprisonment. Moreover, the repetition of conduct and its public promotion for commercial purposes aggravate the criminal significance of the case.
The Bilbao Municipal Police emphasize that they are actively working to detect, investigate and prevent this type of crime, in coordination with the Ertzaintza. They also recall that the possession, advertising or trafficking of prohibited weapons can have criminal consequences, and encourage citizens to report any suspicious content on social networks.
