The Government has stepped up measures to prevent the spread of Nodular Contagious Dermatosis
The Basque Governmenthas tightened measures to prevent the spread of Nodular Contagious Dermatosis (DNK). Thus, the Department of Food, Rural Development, Agriculture and Fisheries has revoked the order of 24 October and approved a new order containing stricter measures.
In addition to last month's measures, beef from farms outside the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, regardless of the reason for the transfer and its origin or destination, will be subjectto the supervision of official veterinarians for 21 days from the date of arrival at the farm.
On the other hand, the measure provides for the precautionary immobilization of farms that bring animals from territories declared to be restricted by the Nodular Contagious Dermatosis during the aforementioned period, affecting all cattle on the farm on the date of entry of displaced animals.
The Government decided on 23 October to ban all types of livestock and livestock fairs or eventsas a preventive measure, which will be in force at least until 30 November, and which will be extended in time depending on the development of the situation.
In Navarre and the Northern Basque Country, livestock fairs and competitions are also temporarily banned.
DNK disease isnon-zoonosic , i.e. humans are not infected either by contact with animals or by consumption of products derived from animals.
