Osakidetza treated 2,121 victimsof male violence in 2024, an average of six per day , 3.2 per cent morethan the previous year.
Osakidetza has released these data on theoccasion of next Tuesday's International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Of the total number of women treated, 374 were victims of sexual assault, an increase of 39.5 per cent over 2023, when 268 cases were dealt with.
Fourout of 10 women treated for sexual assault last year were minors.
With regard to 2025, between January and September the Basque Health Service dealt with 299 cases of sexual assault.
In Bizkaia, 1,202 persons were treated for male violence, 1.7 per cent less than in 2023, in Gipuzkoa 599, 16.7 per cent more, and in Álava 320, 0.3 per cent more.
By level of care, 1,041 cases were detected in emergencies, 1,003 in primary care and 77 in hospital care.
Over the past decade, 21,549 Osakidetza professionals have received training on gender-based violence in more than 400 training sessions.
The Department of Health has stressed that Osakidetza professionals have specific guidelines for action against gender-based violence and sexual assault.
