The emergency services have completed the search for the shepherd who has been missing since Thursday afternoon on the southern hillside of Mount Aizkorri due to the lack of light and will resume this Saturday, according to the Basque Government's Department of Security.
According to this source, the dog and flock of this 77-year-old shepherd were found this afternoon with the help of a Ertzaintza helicopter, but the man has not yet been located.
The members of the Ertzaintza mountain section have been looking for the man since the family reported his disappearance. It appears that he was about to return with his flock along the southern skirt of the Aizkorri, in Gipuzkoa, near the Urbia meadows.
Dueto the snow, the search has been very complicated this Friday, and mountain specialists from the Ertzaintza Surveillance and Rescue Unit have been involved in the search.
The family reported the disappearance at around 8:00 yesterday, after they had not heard from the shepherd who was to descend from the Urbia meadows to the Brinkola area from the Katabera mines.
The mountain resources of the Ertzaintza went to the scene, and searched for it on a side which the missing person usually uses, and in the nearby huts of Urbia itself.
A weather user recorded the pastor.
A video sent by Aitor Ruiz de Angulo to EITB's Weather Service shows the missing pastor. The images, taken hours before he lost track, show the man moving from the area where the search device was later activated.
