The Government has activated the Winter Road Plan to keep the port situation down
Withthe start of winter and the possibility of snow at low levels (below 1,000 metres), the Basque Governmenthas activatedthe Winter Road Plan in the monitoring and information phase, so that the situation of the Basque ports will be closely monitored and, if necessary, resources will be put in place and citizens will be alerted.
The Winter Road Plan 2025-2026 will maintain the same number of resources as last year. Thus, 215 Deputies and Highways snow removal machines will be available, as well as seven heavy cranes that will be located at strategic points for the withdrawal of multi-tonne vehicles. In addition, 130 other coordination and surveillance support vehicles will be available.
The plan consists of two phases, the monitoring and information phase, when the snow level drops from 1,000 metres high, and the operational phase, when the level is below 700 metres.
Last winter, 2024-2025, was activated three times, twice as much as the previous one, while the operational phase was activated three times.
