The material seized during a police operation in Álava in 2020 has been handed over by the Ertzaintza to an NGO for distribution in the Gambia.
The Ertzaintza requested permission from a court to hand over the material to an NGO that will distribute it to several locations in the Gambia.
The Basque Government's Department of Security has explained that in the police operation carried out in 2020, six people were arrestedon charges of committing five robberies in truck trailers in Álava.
When the drivers stopped to rest and the trucks parked in the industrial parks were stolen.
The perpetrators of these crimes were membersof a criminal group engaged in such robberies throughout the national territory. This group was based in Vitoria, and carried the stolen items to Algeciras.
The items now donated to the NGO were found in a hotel and premises rented in Vitoria.
