This New Year's Eve, there have been 22 fires in Bizkaia, 13 of them in containers
Firefighters have quashed a fire in several containers in Algorta (Bizkaia) this morning for the alleged use of pyrotechnic material during the New Year's celebrations. The images show that firefighters were working to extinguish the fires and extinguish the smoke that was coming out of the affected containers, without any personal damage.
According to the provisional balance provided by the fire brigade of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, since midnight 22 interventions have been carried out in the territory as a result of the fires, of which five have been structural fires, two on balconies, two on scaffolding and one on a facade, and 17 others external fires, including 13 in containers, three in awnings and one in a chicken house.
By way of reference, on New Year's Eve 2024, the Bizkaia Fire Department dealt with a total of 38 fires, almost twice as many as this year, of which 24 were external fires, mainly in vehicles and containers, nine homes and five forest areas, bushes or gardens.
