Two oncological patients die at Burgos Hospital from a failure in treatment preparation
The defect has also affected two other patients, one of whom is admitted to the ICU. The events occurred during the Christmas holidays due to an error in the preparation of the dose of a drug. The Department of Health of Castilla y León (Sacyl) has stated that this was a human error and has assumed responsibility.
Two oncological patients from the Burgos University Hospital (HUBU) have died as a result of a failure in the preparation of a treatment. The failure has also affected three other patients. One of them is in the intensive care unit.
The events took place during the Christmas holidays and due to an error in the preparation of a drug, specifically a dose for a certain number of patients, so there is no risk to others, they have confirmed from the hospital.
They say it's a human error that the hospital management takes as its own, without mentioning anyone on the staff as responsible, and it's affected five patients in total: two have died, one is in the ICU, one room on the floor and the fifth has been discharged.
From the hospital in Burgos, it has been reported that as soon as the situation becameknown, an internal investigation was opened to clarify what happened, and action protocols have been reviewed to prevent further risks and reduce the likelihood of human error.
They also state that they have always been in contact with families and patients and have been transparent with them by providing them with the necessary information and explanations and making available the legal resources and services of the centre.
