The Department of Health of the Basque Government has reported the detection of a case of tuberculosis in a childattending school in a school in Bilbao, explaining that the case has been evaluated and managed in accordance with surveillance and control protocols.
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that currently has effective and curative treatment and is transmitted by breathing (coughing or speaking) and generally requires long and close exposure to contagion.
In this context, as a standard preventive measure, contacts in the school environment will be identified and analysed to try to prevent infection and, where appropriate, to guide preventive treatment.
Osakidetza will contact the families of students who may be at risk.
