UEMA has presented 10 urgent measures to stop the regression of Basque municipalities
Organized by the Commonwealth of Basque Municipalities and the Municipality of Otxandio, the Day of theBasque Municipalities is being celebrated today in Otxandio. The UEMA is currently composed of 121 municipalities, taking into account the newly incorporated Elgorriaga . But today is "the day of all the Basque municipalities, not only those that belong to the UEMA".
In the morning, representatives of the 121 villages that make up the UEMA will hold a General Assembly in Mainondo, and at noon the institutional event was held in the town square with the participation of representatives of public institutions, Basque culture, etc.
Together with some 125 mayors and councillors from the Basque municipalities, the Director of Linguistic Standardization of the Public Administrations of the Basque Government, Joseba Lozano, the Director of Euskera of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, Isaac Amezaga, and the Head of Communication of the Council of Basque Culture, Aingeru Mimentza, among others.
Martin Aramendi , president of UEMA, talks about future challenges and considers it essential that "ten urgent measures" be put in place as soon as possible to "stop the process of the disappearance of airspace."
These are the 10 measures proposed by UEMA:
1. To ensure that all public services provided by the Basque Government, the Government of Navarre and the Member States in the Basque municipalities are provided in Basque.
2. Establish the obligation to have the linguistic landscape in Basque in the Basque municipalities.
3. To take measures to ensure that the plans, projects and various projects to be developed in the Basque municipalities do not adversely affect the Basque Country.
4. Implement the liberating dynamics for the Euskaldunization of workers in the hospitality sector.
5. Reduce Euskaldunization/literacy ratios and ensure free of charge at all levels.
6. Establish the Basque language as an axis in the education of adults in immersion measures for newcomers.
7. Launch immersion models for the Euskaldunization of newly-arrived children and young people.
8. To establish measures to enable children and young people in Basque municipalities to carry out their entire learning process in the most Euskaldun and compact areas possible.
9. Take measures to introduce children from vulnerable families into leisure time in Basque.
10. To take legal measures to ensure that all municipal workers are Euskaldunes and to ensure their functioning in Basque.
Aramendi has also called on all Euskaltzales to join and participate in the\u00A0 Euskaltzaleon March convened by the Council in Pamplona on 13 June.
