The 61 killed in the Franco bombing of Otxandio will be remembered today on the 90th anniversary of the massacre

The air strike took place in Andikona Square, during the Santa Marina festivities, when two Franco-backed planes dropped their bombs.
In the words of the current mayor of Otxandio, EgoitzGarmendia, this was the first air strike on the civilian population in the Basque Country and the "first bombing of the Civil War".
Tribute to neighbors who broke their silence in 1976
The tribute will begin at 6 p.m. this Wednesday witha floral offering at the fountain of Andikona, and next Sunday, in the framework of the festivities, an event will be held in memory of the 61 Otxandians who died at that event.
Moreover, this year will pay tributeto the first step taken in 1976 to remember the events, which were kept secret during Francoism.
