The Baiona Public Prosecutor's Office has requested pre-trial detention for two observers arrested on charges of sexual assault
With the opening of the court case, the Public Prosecutor's Office has charged the two accused with sexual assault and corruption of minors, including 16 children between the ages of 3 and 4, 12 of whom have already been identified as victims, and four families have filed a complaint with the police station.
The sexual assaults took place at the Biarritz leisure centre.
The Baiona Public Prosecutor's Office has opened proceedings against two observers at the Mouriscot leisure centre in Biarritz for crimes of sexual assault and corruption of minors. According to a statement issued by the prosecution itself, the Public Prosecutor's Office has requested the provisional detention of the two suspects .
The investigation, taken over by the Biarritz police station, began on 12 July following a complaint filedby the parents of a three-and-a-half-year-old boy who claimed to have been assaulted at the municipal facility.
How many victims have they identified?
So far, there are 16 children between the ages of 3 and 4 involved, 12 of whom have already been identified as victims.
The prosecution note highlights that other minors who have not reported having been sexually assaulted "show signs of trauma", so the number of victims is likely to increase.
So far, the four families have filed a complaint at the police station.
Suspects have no criminal record.
The facts investigated reportedly occurred between July 1, 2025 and July 16, 2026, at the Moriscot leisure centre without a stay.
The suspects are a 21-year-old casual worker (linked to the centre since 2025) and a 36-year-old permanent monitor (who had been on staff for two years), both of whom had no criminal record, both of whom were arrested at their homes on 21 July and have denied the charges against them.
The Biarritz City Council cautiously dismissed the two workers as soon as the investigation became known.
