The Provincial Council of Bizkaia has improved its coverage, drainage systems, evacuation galleries, lighting and automatic incident detection systems, and in autumn it will be the turn of the Salve section.
The Ugasko-Txorierri section of the Artxanda tunnels will be reopened tomorrow, August 4, after six months of work , according to the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, which has indicated that work will be carried out from autumn on the other main section, between Txorierri and Salve.
This section is used daily by 30,000 vehicles, as it is essential to travel from Bilbao to Loiu airport, the Zamudio Technology Park and the Txorierri in general.
During the six months of work, the Provincial Council has completely renovated the infrastructure: sanitation, consolidation and waterproofing of the coating ; improvement of internal drainage systems; adaptation of evacuation galleries ; and complete replacement of safetyfacilities and equipment.
New technologies adapted to European standards have also been introduced, including energy-efficient LED lighting, automatic incident detection systems, gas detectors and energy management systems using solar panels.
In addition, the works have enabled a complete digital record of the infrastructure through theBIM as built digital model of the tunnels. In addition, as explained by the Council, a new pilot project has been launched to develop a sustainable drainage system aimed at minimising the impact of runoff on nearby river channels.
