A five-degree earthquake struck Grenada this morning
The earthquake has had its epicenter in Alhendine and the 112 emergency service has received more than 200 calls, in addition to a fortnight of replicas in the Vega area of Granada, without any injuries.
An earthquake of magnitude 5 struck this morning in Alhend, Granada, causing material damage, while the Andalusian emergency service 112 received more than 200 calls as a result of the earthquake.
According to the National Geographical Institute (IGN), theearthquake occurred at 01:04 local time at a depth of 2 km. The tremor was felt at several points in Andalusia, especially in Granada, but also in the provinces of Almería, Malaga and Jaén.
Building damage and collapses
The earthquake has caused material collapses, detachment of facades and roof elements and other damage to various parts of the metropolitan area of Granada, including Armilla.
The Andalusian Government has asked the citizens to remain calm and has recommended moving away from facades, cornisas, balconies and walls at the risk of falling elements.
A fortnight of replicas.
Following the major earthquake, the IGN recorded fifteen tremors between 01:08 and 03:19 in the Vega area of Granada, including Ogijares, La Zubia, Otura, Gojar, Churriana de la Vega, Armilla and Alhendin.
In addition, other earthquakes of magnitude between 2.2 and 3.7 have been recorded in the following hours in several municipalities in the metropolitan area.
