They stole Napoleon's jewels at the Louvre Museum
The French Minister of Culture has assured us that the theft has an "incalculable" value, including the jewels of Napoleon and Empress Eugenia. On the other hand, the museum will remain closed throughout Sunday to "protect the evidence."
The Louvre Museum has beenrobbed on Sunday morning, so museum officials have decided toclose for the whole day.
French Culture Minister Rachida Dati has stated that the theft has been carried out quickly, making it clear that the perpetrators are "professionals".
The robbery took place early on Sunday, when the museum was about to open its doors.
According to the French newspaper Le Parisien, the thieves entered the building at 9.30 a.m.on the side of the Seine, which is currently under construction, and once inside they used a forklift to accessthe Apollo Gallery, which houses the most precious jewels of the French Crown.
After breaking the windows, two men came in, and a third waited outside.
Apparently, nine pieces of Napoleon's and the Empress's jewellery collection have beenstolen . However, the most valuable diamond in the collection, 140 carats, has not been stolen, according to Louvre sources.
The police, for their part, have cleared the entrance to the courtyard by the pyramid, and the museum has closed its doors.
According to the Paris museum, there have been "exceptional reasons" that have led to the decision to close, and no further explanation has been given.
