"However, Brussels believes that this process should include the recognition of the main opposition leaders, Maria Corina Machado and Edmundo González, who were supported by a "significant majority" of Venezuelans in the last elections.
At a press conference in Brussels, the EU's foreign spokesman, Anitta Hipper , praised the role of the two opposition leaders for having "fought tirelessly for democracy and human rights" in Venezuela.
Hipper has insisted that "next steps" should be based on political dialogue as a way to achieve a "stable democratic transition . "
In this regard, the spokesman insisted that this process should include "Edmundo Gonzalez and Maria Corina Machado".
