American filmmaker Jim Jarmusch won the Golden Lion for the 82nd Venice Film Festival on Saturday for his tragicomedy Father Mother Sister Brother(Sister Father) on family relations.
"Those of us here who make movies are not driven by competition, but this is something I really appreciate and it's an unexpected honor," the filmmaker said as he picked up the award at the Lido Film Palace in Venice.
The film tells stories of triptych-looking parents and children, including Tom Waits, Adam Driver, Charlotte Rampling or Cate Blanchett.
The voice of Hind Rajab (voice of Hind Rajab), who narrates how a six-year-old Palestinian girl died in an Israeli attack, has won the 82nd Venice Festival Jury Silver Lion Grand Prix.
Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania was greeted by the public with a big standing ovation as he rose to collect the award.
"I dedicate this award to the Palestinians and to all those who risk everything to save lives in Gaza, those are the real heroes. Hind's voice is the voice of Gaza itself," the filmmaker told the public.
Ben Hania is betting on "the strength of cinema," because "it gives you the courage to tell stories that would otherwise be erased."
"Cinema cannot give us back (the girl), nor can it erase the atrocities committed against it, no one can ever restore what has been taken from them, but cinema can keep its voice and make it heard beyond the borders," he said, adding that "its story is not just his own, but that of an entire people suffering the genocide caused by the criminal regime of Israel with total impunity."
"The voice of Hind Rajab" has shaken the Mostra, which has premiered as Israel bombes the Gaza Strip.
