"The Domingos" has achieved glory by winning the Golden Shell
The Domingos, an X-ray of our times built on the fascination of a 17-year-old girl with nun life, has won the Golden Shell of the 73rd edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival.
The Baracaldés filmmaker Alauda Ruiz de Azua has received, tonight at the closing gala of this edition in the Kursaal, the highest award of the official jury this year led by the Catalan filmmaker J.A. Bayona. The medals, with the participation of EITB, are the second feature film written and directed by the author of the short series Querer , after the award-winning film Cinco lobitos .
The Domingos tell the story of Ainara, the film that has also won the Irizar Prize for Basque Cinema. Ainara is an idealistic and extraordinary 17-year-old girl who, by surprise, reveals that she feels closer and closer to God and that she is considering introducing the closing nun.
The jury has also made special mention ofthefilm Histories of the Good Valley by Jose Luis Guerin who, in Bayona's words, "looks at faces and landscapes that are rarely filmed."
Jose Ramon Soroiz, foaming with joy
For veteran legorreta actor Jose Ramon Soroiz the Silver Shell has been for the best performance, ex aequo with Chinese actor Zhao Xiaohong. The official jury has thus highlighted Soroiz's gigantic work in the film directed by Maspalomas Aitor Arregi and Jose Mari Goenaga, as well as Xiaohong's work in the film that mixes fiction and reality Her heart beats in its cage.
On the other hand, in the Moriarti film Soroiz Vicente da Maspalomas , a 76-year-old gay man who, after breaking up with his partner, begins to make the kind of life he likes in that town of Gran Canaria. An accident will force him to return to San Sebastian, where he will have to meet his long-abandoned daughter.
Soroiz has 50 years of career behind him, especially on television and on the stage of the theatres, and the directors did not hesitate to dedicate the role to him. Soroiz, however, had to reflect before giving his assent, because the film has very explicit sex scenes.
Soroiz finally accepted the proposal, fortunately, and the public's approval and today's award confirm that decision. "I have emptied myself," he said at the film presentation press conference, "it was the toughest and most wonderful two months I've ever lived in 50 years."
At the time of the award, Soroiz has received the close support of the public and has thanked Aitor Arregi and Jose Mari Goenaga, " thegreatest prize they have ever given me in 50 years "Maspalomas.
