The Official Section of the San Sebastian Film Festival will receive three productions in Basque
The film directed by Maspalomas Aitor Arregi and Jon Garaño, the feature film by Karmele Asier Altuna and the series by Zeru Ahoak Koldo Almandoz will be in the Official Section of the 73 edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival, the first to compete for both the Golden Shell and the other two official awards.
In addition, theBasque co-production Los tigres , the latest film by Andalusian director Alberto Rodríguez, will also compete in the main section of the Festival.
The San Sebastian Film Festival today held in Madrid the presentation of the Spanish State films that will be shown in the capital of Guipuzcoana from 19 to 27 September, an event in which the Basque cinema has, of course, had a strong representation.
Beyond the Official Section, the New Age will compete in the New Directors section, which selects the first or second feature films of promising filmmakers, and in the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera section you will be able to watch the documentary The Last Sister (Marta Medina and Enrique López Lavigne) and the short Variations (Lur Olaizola).
This is the new film by the trio Maspalomas Moriarti (80 egunean, Loreak, Handia, La trinchera infinita...), directed this time by Aitor Arregi and Jose Mari Goenaga, starring Jose Ramon Soroiz and Nagore Aranburu, who tells the story of an elderly man who decides to cover up his homosexuality when he is admitted to a nursing home.
Karmele Asier Altuna (Amama, Bertsolari, Aupa Etxebeste!, Agur, Etxebeste) takes as his starting point the novel Elkarrekin esnatzeko ordua, by Kirmen Uribe, and tells the life of Karmele Urresti and Txomin Letamendi, who will return to the Basque Country after their exile in France and Venezuela.
The series Zeru ahoak Koldo Almandoz, for its part, is a continuation of the black thriller Hondar Ahoak , which consists of four 35-minute episodes and features Nagore Aranburu himself (also inKarmele), Josean Bengoetxea, Mira Gaztañaga, Ramon Agirre and Sara Cozar.
The film The New Age deals with the transfer of revolutionary principles from broader fields to more intimate areas, The Last Sisterlooks at the mysteries behind the film Arrebato and its director, Ivan Zulueta (pending confirmation of EITB's participation), and Variations is starring a trio that talks about this and that while the short film The Last Sister repairs the headlines.
Also, as is well known, the series Klasikoak will project four medium films in Basque in the mid-1980s, restored through the Basque Film Library and EITB: Hamaseigarrenean aidanez (Anjel Lertxundi, 1985), Ehun metro (Alfonso Ungría, 1985), Zergatik panpox (Xabier Elorriaga, 1985) and Orain ez.
