A moment of the act of handing over the remains of Constancio Allende Sancho.
The family of Constancio Allende Sancho, a soldier in the Civil War, collected his remains this Wednesday. He was forced to fight with the Falange, died in Guadalajara and was buried in the Cuelgamuros Valley.
The event, which took place in privacy in Vitoria-Gasteiz, was delivered to the grandchildren by the Secretary of State for Democratic Memory, Fernando Martínez, who stated during the event that the Government "continues to commit itself to the exhumation of all victims" in the Cuelgamuros Valley "if their relatives so request".
Allende was born in Vallarta de Bureba (Burgos) in 1904, emigrated as a young man to Vitoria, where he married Gertrudis Elguea Sáez de Vicuña.
As with many other young men, he was necessarily recruited by Francoist troops and had to fight with the Falange, who died on 2 November 1936 in Guadalajara at the age of 32.
According to an investigation by the team led by Paco Etxeberria, the body of Constancio Allende was transferred from the province of Guadalajara to the Cuelgamuros Valley in 1959.
The Secretary of State has pointed out that the body has been given to the grandchildren to "mourn and bury with their grandmother".
