Asbestos victims will be able to apply for a certificate of assistance from this Thursday
Certification must be issued within three months of the submission of the application.
Personsaffected by asbestos may apply from tomorrow, 18 September, for the certificatenecessary for the receipt of aid from the compensation fund for health damage.
The Department of Healthof the Basque Government has reported that, following the signing on Wednesday of the order for the establishment of the Asbestos Assessment Team by Counsellor Alberto Martínez , the procedures can begin from tomorrow.
This group shall examinethe applications and documentation submitted and issue an opinion on the verification of asbestos-related pathologies, and shall subsequently issue a certificate from the Public Health Directorate, which shall open the way for victims to receive financial compensation managed by the National Social Security Institute.
The Order shall be published on Thursday in the Official Gazette of the Basque Country (BOPV), and thereafter applications may be submitted electronically and in personat the headquarters of the Zuzenean Service.
The Assessment Team consists of three members: a Public Health Technician; a Osalan Occupational Health Specialist; and another Environmental Health Expert.
The order states that certification must be issued within three months of the submission of the application.
