Jon Insausti will be the next mayor of San Sebastian after the confirmation of the PNV's Gipuzkoa Buru Batzar (GBB).
Eneko Goiaannounced yesterday that he will resign on October 16 following the City Council's General Policy Plenary. He has stated that "it is a decision that has been made for a long time, it is good that there are cycles that start and end" and added that "it has to do with how I see things and what I think is best for the city."
The current mayor has not cleared up doubts about his future: "I want to breathe for two months and then I will make the decisions I have to make," he said on Radio Euskadi. Asked about the possibility of making the leap to the Congress of Deputies, he has not closed the door to that possibility, but he has made it clear that it is not up to him to decide.
