Former President of the Government of Extremadura , the socialist Guillermo Fernández Vara, diedat the age of 66 from cancer, according to the PSOE.
Vara, who served as PSOE General Secretary of Extremadura for 16 years, served three terms as President of the Extreme-Extreme-PSOE Government, but in 2023 he was detected with a tumor in his abdomen and has been in treatment ever since.
Between 2008 and 2024, the PSOE won three consecutive autonomous elections in Extremadura, and Vara was chairman of the Board for 12 years: between 2007 and 2011, between 2011 and 2015, and from 2019 to 2023.
