The University Counsellor, Juan Ignacio Pérez Iglesias, announced on Radio Euskadi that he would call the rector of the UPV, Joxerramon Bengoetxea, to agree on a meeting to close the public disagreement on the university budget of 2026. Sources of the department have confirmed that they have already agreed to an appointment but have not communicated the date. They have specified that the rectorwill appear in the Basque Parliament on November 19.
Pérez Iglesias has insisted that next year's accounts guarantee "sufficient funding" for the Basque public university and has argued that "there is no room for more." However, he has stressed that "more money is envisaged than ever for the UPV."
Tension has increased since the rector called for a direct meeting with the president, a decision that Pérez Iglesias did not share and which strained the institutional relationship.
