Yesterday, García Ortiz informed the Minister ofJustice, Félix Bolaños, of his resignation after the Supreme Court sentenced him to two years' disqualification, a fine of 7,200 euros and compensation of 10,000 euros for leaking an e-mail related to the defence of Alberto González Amador, partner of Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
In his letter of resignation, the former Attorney-General assures that he was leaving office "without waiting for the reason of the sentence" and argues that he has always acted "with a public service vocation. "The Supreme Court's decision, which has had the individual opinion of two judges, will be fully heard in the coming days.
In the meantime, the Government has speeded up the replacement of the Attorney-General's Office to ensure "institutional stability" and to enable the new official to take office as soon as the necessary procedures have been completed.
