Following the path taken by the Ertzaintza, the Mossos will begin to report from January on the origin of the detainees in their annual reports. The typology of the offences and the profile of the offenders, including their provenance, will be determined. On 14 October, the Ertzaintza began to refer to the nationality of the detainees (age and gender already mentioned) in order to avoid feeding speeches linking immigration and insecurity.
The Councilor for the Interior, Nuria Parlon, has stressed that the purpose of providing information on the origin is to gather "essential elements" for a more rigorous interpretation of crime, including the socio-economic situation and living conditions.
According to the head of the Mossos d'Escaladra, Josep Lluís Trapero, the annual balance sheet will show that many of the robberies that occur are committed by foreigners, while behind most of the crimes of sex and corruption are Spanish.
