Declassified documents indicate that six CESID agents were involved in the O23
Documents declassified by the Government on the attempted coup d'état of 23 February show that six members of the CESID Special Missions Operational Association (AOME) actively participated in the coup attempt and that, according tothe documentation, they tried to cover up their involvement after the coup failed.
In particular, reports from the Ministry of Defence indicate that the agents belong to CESID (the current CNI precedent) and that they knew in advance what had happened or planned operational assistance, which they carried out on 23 February 1981.
The document states that after the attempt, an operation was activated to justify the movements and conceal participation in order to evade responsibility.
Among those involved are Captain Garcia Almenta, Captain Gomez Iglesias, Sergeant Miguel Sales, Corporal Monge Segura and Corporal Moya Gomez, who said they "knew the facts before they occurred."
The documentation also mentions Commander José Luis Cortina, who led the elite unit of CESID and was acquitted in the O23 trial, on which the report states that there is no evidence that he was aware of the attempted coup, although there are indications that he may have had prior information.
