The second Vice-President of the Spanish Government and Minister of Labour, Yolanda Díaz, has announced that she will not stand for election in the general elections scheduled for 2027. She has announced her decision in a statement released in Bluesky and has defended her work in the Spanish Government.
In his message, Díaz stressed that youth poverty has fallen from 28.3% to 20.9%, as well as improved working conditions and reduced inequality to historic lows, and stressed that Spain has grown to 2.8%, twice the European average, and valued measures such as the Statute of Fellows or time control.
He has also called for the regularization of half a million migrants, a policy that he has opposed to deportations from other countries. "Spain is a host country that regularizes them," he said.
Díaz has assured us that his decision not to stand for the next elections is "very thoughtful"and that he has already communicated it to his environment and to the President of the Spanish Government. Nevertheless, he has stressed that he will continue to work to improve the lives of citizens and has defended "collectively" the progress made.
The Vice-President acknowledges that she always mistrusted the idea of being a candidate, especially because of the harshness of politics, but is proud of the progress made and the achievements made during her time in the Government.
