The Basque Centre has formed an executive and permanent committee
President Alain Iriart has sought to ensure political pluralism with his proposals, as well as a greater presence of the interior. However, Iriarte has acknowledged that he has not achieved the desired parity, since 6 out of 15 are women.
Following the appointment of Alain Iriart as President of the Basque Centre College on 11 April, today the General Assembly of the College approved, almost unanimously, the Directorate and the Standing Committee.
15 Vice-Presidents, nine Delegated Thematic Councillors and ten territorial references have been appointed at today's session.
The Vice-Presidents include Peio Etxeleku, Mayor of Kanbo, Jean-Rene Etchegaray, Mayor of Bayona, President of the College, but not Vice-President, while Joseba Erremundeguy, Deputy President of Etxegarai, will be Vice-President.
The President has been clear about the criteria for the composition of the group, the preservation of territorial balance, the representation of all political sensitivities and parity.
It has ensured political pluralism and a greater presence of the interior. However, Iriarte has acknowledged that it has not achieved parity, since there are 6 out of 15 women.
Surprise at 13.
The Vice-Presidents have been voting and accepting one by one until the appointment of the Vice-President number 13 has been made an unexpected incident, the only incident of the day.
At that point, Iriarte has proposed Bernard Lougarot (Gotaine) for the 13th Vice-Presidency, but Christelle Mange, the Sohuta litigant, has complained that she has been removed from the process to hand over the post to a man on the left.
He explained that from the territory of Zuberoa, the left-wing parties proposed four men, and he said that they argued that they did not have a female candidate.
At the meeting, he expressed his displeasure at Iriarte's support for the man to take that 13th seat, which is why he has presented his candidacy back and won the support of the collegiates, with a standing ovation.
