Elections in Andalusia: What does each party play on the 17M?
Tomorrow the election campaign starts in Andalusia. Although all the polls give PP candidate Juanma Moreno the winner, it remains to be seen whether she will need Vox's votes to govern, while the PSOE wants to make a show of strength with candidate María Jesús Montero, recovering lost voters in recent years.
The five main candidates in the Andalusian elections
The countdown has begun for the autonomous elections to the Andalusian Parliament, which will take place on 17 May and in which different scenarios are at stake. A total of 27 parties or coalitions have been presented, of which 13 will compete in all districts. In any case, the main contest will be between the PP, PSOE, Vox, Por Andalucia and Adelante Andalucia.
The election campaign will begin at midnight — at 00:00 on May 1 — and all parties are ready to send their messages and promises to the public.
But what does each team play? Jaya, the main key.
Moreno, looking for an absolute majority.
According to all the polls, the PP candidate and current president of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno (since 2018), will easily win the election, but what remains to be seen is whether it will reach the absolute majority, according to which the playing field will vary greatly.
Without a doubt, Moreno's goal is to reach that majority, because it would mean putting the opposite scenarios at Vox's disposal.
The ultra-right-wing party has already warned that it will put the same conditions on the table in Andalusia as in Extremadura or Aragon, and of course, among them, the so-called "national priority."
Although within the PP the moderate profile leader strives to move away from the ideas of the ultra-right , in 2018 he reached a closed agreement with them as president.
Montero, to get the PSOE back the lost voters in Andalusia.
The PSOE candidate , Maria Jesús Montero, will come to the polls with the wind of the polls against. The forecasts are that it will not improve the results of the 2022 elections, in which the Socialists won 30 seats.
To reverse the situation and show strength, Montero hopes for the voters that the PSOE has lost in Andalusia in recent years.
He left his first position as Vice-President of the Spanish Government and Minister of Finance to run for office in Andalusia. Even if he broke all expectations and managed to improve his results, he would have to talk to the other two left-wing parties .
Vox wants to take the key.
The aim of the far-right party is to prevent Moreno from repeating an absolute majority. In that case, Vox would take a position of strength on the political stage and hold the key in the formation of government for the next four years.
Manuel Gavila is Vox's candidate, and he has the formula of Extremadura and Aragon in mind: maintain the party's upward trend and be decisive in the Andalusian government.
By Andalucia, the left front bet
To confront the right, now that the left-wing groups of the Spanish state are trying to form a great front, Por Andalucía will test this formula in Andalusia, a coalition that brings together, among others, the IU, the Sumar Movement or Podemos, with Andonio Maillo , a member of the IU, as a candidate.
Their idea is to double the current representation and get at least ten MPs, and they don't rule out getting to the government, along with the other left-wing groups. However, according to the polls, they would match the results of four years ago or, in the best of cases, improve something.
Adelante Andalucia, rising
On the way up and with the prospects in the polls favorable to the 17M, the candidate for Adelante Andalucia, José Ignacio García, will arrive at the 17M.
in the PSOE this party is placed to the left, and wants to maintain its own character, separated from the structures of groups at state level. It is marked by the identity of the Andalusians.
The Adelante Andalucía currently has only two deputies, but polls indicate that it is very likely that Por Andalucía will be the fourth force in the polls.
