The Paris Court of Appeal has ordered the surrender of Josu Urrutikoetxea to the Spanish authorities
According to judicial sources, the surrender of the former ETA leader "will not take place until the French proceedings under way have been completed" and is not a final decision, since an appeal in cassation may be lodged.
The Paris Court of Appeal on Wednesday orderedthe surrender to the Spanish authorities of former ETA leader J osu Urrutikoetxea Bengoetxea (Josu Ternera) , in response to his request for a Euroorder for pending cases in Spain.
Judicial sources have confirmed that the Examining Chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal has ordered Urrutikoetxea to be handed over to the Spanish authorities "once the proceedings in France have been completed ".
They also state that this is not a final decision because an appeal may be lodged in cassation.
Urrutikoetxea, 75 , was arrested in May 2019 in Sallanches, in the French Alps, after almost 17 years underground.
In Spain, the Audiencia Nacional has in its hands the attack on the Zaragoza barracks in 1987, in which 11 people were killed, while in 2025 Judge Santiago Pedraz requested the surrender of them in the 'taverns herriko' case, where he was charged with a crime of leading a terrorist organization.
