Judge Juan Carlos Peinado has gone on holiday and has delegated to a substitute judge the decision on the authorization of Begoña Gómez to attend the NATO summit. Gómez is to travel with her husband Pedro Sánchez to Turkey if the judges allow him. He has also requested permission to travel from Turkey to London to be present at his daughter's graduation.
Judge Peinado decidedin June to withdraw the passport from the wife of the President of the Government and to prohibit her from leaving Spain as a precautionary measure until the trial for four alleged crimes. The Public Prosecutor 's Office has supported Gomez's defence 's requestfor these trips, while the popular charges have expressed their "final and absolute opposition"to the risk of escape from justice.
In the brief submitted to the court, the defence requests that Sanchez's wife be allowed to travel abroad from 7 to 10 July 2026 with the President of the Government, together with the Spanish delegation to participate in the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government in Ankara.
It also specifies that the return of this official voyage would take place after London, "in order to be able to attend the graduation of his daughter." So he plans to return from Britain on the 10th on a commercial plane.
The defense attorney has stressed that "the trip will be with the security team accompanying the President of the Government, which guarantees the full security of all travel." In order to make the trip, he has requested the return of his passport and promises to leave it in court the day after his return to Madrid. He has also requested the registration of this permit in the Siraj public system of the Department of Justice in order to avoid any problems.
