The Sumar Movementhas renewed its leadership for the elections of 2027, in which Veronica Martínez Barbero and Rosa Martínez were elected with 95.92% of the vote, according to party sources.
The coalition held an extraordinary meeting today to elect the new leadership and agree on a political document that will focus on the new era. There was only one candidacy, made up of Martínez Barbero and Martínez. The first was Suber's spokesperson in Congress; the second was the Secretary of State for Social Rights.
Both will take over at a critical moment in the coalition. The former general coordinator, Lara Hernández, left the party on July 1, denouncing a campaign to discredit her.
Today's extraordinary assembly had the triple objective of reorganizing the Sumar Movement, "strengthening its territorial establishment and preparing the party for a new political cycle" in order to ratify a progressive coalition government.
Since the founding of Sumar by Yolanda Díaz, the atmosphere has become bitter on several occasions within the movement. Díaz himself left the leadership in June 2024 due to the poor results obtained in the European elections. Shortly afterwards, the Errejón case (denounced by several women for male violence) erupted, and the spokesman in Congress was forced to abandon politics.
