The Political Bureau of EH Bildu in Bilbao has proposed María del Río as candidate for mayor of the Bilbao City Council in the municipal elections of 2027. Del Río has been councillor and spokesperson of EH Bildu in the Bilbao City Council since 2023.
In a statement, the coalition explained that after the "historic results" achieved in the last elections, it wants to reaffirm its commitment to María del Río "tolead a new cycle of transformation inthe city that puts the billiards at the centre and guarantees everyone the development of decent life projects. "
